Perfection Denial Syndrome:- not me! Never! no way! Nada!

March 18th, 2009 · 1 Comment · success mindset

Are you in denial? And do you deny having “PDS” or  “Perfection Denial Syndrome”?

I was in denial for years  - hotly refuting any accusations that I was a perfectionist. I was all too conscious of all my shortcomings and the contrast between those and imagined perfection kept me in denial.

What helped to get me out of this swamp was the massively encouraging talks I heard from Mike Litman. More recently my business partner, Kathy Baker reminds me from time to time of the Pareto Principle – often misleadingly called the 80 /20 rule.

What brought this to mind was reading Mike’s latest blog post on this issue. He blogs about it because it was his problem for years and kept him from achieving what he was capable of.

Perfectionism and PDS go together – not many perfectionists admit it – I didn’t I thought the idea absurd. But I kept on wondering why I was not achieving as much as I knew I could…and realised that I was in denial.

Falling short of perfection paralyses most people and keeps them in weakness, frustration and mediocrity.

Ask yourself how much this operates in your life and what are you achieving?

Is the only person in your way YOU?

If so the good news is that by reaching out to someone else and getting some coaching or mentoring you can blast past these habits of disempowerment.

Because those dreams you have, the dreams we all have only remain dreams while we are in denial. When we accept our own imperfection and everyone else’s then we start to take action towards getting what we want.

And when we get stuck or fail in some part of what we are doing we can take that as a little feedback to get some help and advice and then get going again.

Are you in denial?

Really?
