list building one person at a time
The first question that pops into the mind of an affiliate new to list building is where to get their list from? While it is true that lists can be purchased legitimately most affiliates aren’t aware of that and could not afford it anyhow.
So the beginner or newbie list builder has to build their list one person at a time. Notice I said one person at a time, I generally avoid the use of terms like prospect and lead because I find them unhelpful for the beginner.
The newbie list builder has to find let’s say, 1000 people and induce them to sign up.
To do this they have to go where the people are and on the internet this means forums and social networking sites.
Which forums and web 2.0 sites you decide to use will depend on your niche. If your online business is about sports equipment you can easily find sports forums and sports groups at Facebook, Squidoo and MySpace.
After opening accounts at a few of these forums and web 2.0 sites you have to get to know them thoroughly. Many marketers are disappointed that social networking takes so long but the fact is that each site is different and unless you spend a few hours learning the ropes you won’t be effective at contacting people on the website and creating the right impression.
Your profile is an important part of the impression you are creating and a lot of thought should be given to what you put into such a small space. You have to be comfortable with the information you put there and it must be helpful to someone who “checks you out” and consistent with your business purpose.
Your messages and posting on the website need to create an impression of knowledge and helpfulness. If you get that right you make it easy for people to click on a link, land on your opt-in page and join your list.
And that’s all there is to building a list. You do it one person at a time by freely giving knowledge, advice and helping people solve their problems
And if you have any list building problems now would be a good time to ask a question!

Hey Alex,
Like you say, build your list one person at a time by giving away a free report! This is by far the quickest way to build a list, and to get people to know and trust you
Great post, take care
Paul
Well that’s certainly good advice but I started in the health niche and I found that many health forums did not allow signatures or self promotion so I did not find that a helpful way of building my list. Others were simply just so full of ads that there was no communication between members at all.
